Welcome to The Royal Ascot Insider Website 2009
Royalty, Horses, Colour, Fashion and Noise are brought together like no other event in the world when Ascot opens its gates to the great and the good in mid summer each year.

With four of England’s classic races having past by the end of The Epsom Derby Meeting at the beginning of June, less than ten days later signals the emergence of summer with a carnival of Hats, Champagne and Strawberries.

Royal Ascot is quite simply top of the list with regards to England’s finest society days. Champion Racehorses, Trainers and Jockeys are watched and enjoyed as the packed crowds sip their Pimms on the lawns or dine on Lobster and fine wine in the Hospitality areas.

Around 300,000 members of the general public are joined by Royalty, Celebrities and Millionaires as a very public punt happens on 30 races over five days in Royal Berkshire. A unique mixture of Handicaps and 17 Group Races are staged over distances from 5 Furlongs to 2 ½ Miles as horses from all over the world compete for the £4 million pounds of prize money on offer. The seven Group one contests though the week make this meeting one of the finest on the planet as does Ascot Heath itself and the lovely the Windsor Great Park backdrop.

In 2011 Royal Ascot will celebrate its 300th year and following the major facelift the racecourse look sin tremendous shape for the future. With the improvements in facilities and racing and with its unique Dress code, singing round the bandstands and stewards adorned with Bowler hats its popularity shows no signs of waning.

More on Royal Ascot

The Meeting was first staged in 1711 at the request of Queen Anne and due to its popularity was increased to a four day meeting by 1768.  That popularity was further cemented with the advent of the Gold Cup in 1807 with the five day meeting as we now know it coming to fruition to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee in 2005.

Following the Re-development of Ascot in 2006 there are now over 250 private Hospitality Boxes and during the week no expense is spared as Dinners tuck into Crab, Lobster, Beef Sirloin or Smoked Salmon.  Pimms, fine wines and Champagne are consumed at large along with the great British tradition of Tea with Cucumber Sandwiches and Scones laced with jam and Cream.

However, not all racegoers choose to relax in such grand style with Picnics and small parties staged on the lawns and particularly around the Car Parks which form an integral part of the social gathering and not just a place to park your vehicle.  Some will arrive by Helicopter and some will arrive by Limousine but all come for the fashion and the sport.

In recent years Television coverage has become an integral part of the marketing of this event with the BBC airing its programmes every day from the paddock side.  The media coverage of the designer dresses and outfits on show has encouraged The Face of Ascot competition and The Royal Ascot Fashion Show awards.
